Programs

Our Focus on Four Program Areas

We maximize our effectiveness by focusing on a limited suite of program areas. These reflect our values as well as our experience. Two program areas are issue-focused, and two are process-focused. We find, increasingly, that progress on climate change and economic justice for women will require greater citizen participation and increased institutional responsiveness.

Economic Justice for Women
Institutional Responsiveness
Citizen Participation

Environment

Our current initiatives are designed to enact aggressive policies at the state and national levels to reduce carbon emissions. We help bring diverse and compelling new voices into the climate debate. We highlight the risks of coal-burning power plants and mountaintop removal coal mining. We support sound climate science, while exposing those who distort it.

Economic Justice for Women

Our programs seek to improve the quality of life for working women and their families by advocating for equitable employment opportunities and updated employment standards.  We have pushed for change at the national, state and local levels.  We have invested in research, training, public education campaigns and advocacy efforts.  All of our work is done in partnership with other foundations and advocacy organizations.

Institutional Responsiveness

Traditionally the most open-ended of the Family Fund’s program areas, this program’s purpose is to help provide organizations with the means to affect the policies and actions of public and private institutions.

Citizen Participation & Government Accountability

Our Citizen Participation & Government Accountability program supports nonpartisan organizations that help citizens exercise the right to vote and navigate government processes and institutions.  We advocate for more effective oversight of public officials and public expenditures.  We look for ways to increase citizen participation in the formation of public policy.
