Democracy|October 10, 2025
Hahrie Han, a political scientist at Johns Hopkins University and longtime collaborator of the Democracy and Power Innovation Fund, has been named one of 22 recipients of a 2025 MacArthur Fellowship, among the nation's most prestigious and significant recognitions.
Over the past 20 years, Hahrie has led groundbreaking research to demonstrate that base-building organizing provides the foundation for democratic practice. Her 2021 book, Prisms of the People, co-authored with Liz McKenna and Michelle Oyakawa, explores the question of power and how state-based civic organizations serve as vehicles to transform individual interests into collective power to drive impact. Hahrie's scholarship is at the root of DPI's project to support organizing groups in their work to understand and measure the power they are building to drive change.
